Cell division is the process of replication of a cell. It is a fundamental process of all organisms, including humans, and it occurs in all cells of the body. The division of human cells into two daughter cells is known as mitosis.
Cell division allows cells to grow, develop, or repair themselves. The process also allows genetic information to be shared between daughter cells. Most important, cell division allows an organism to produce new cells at an enormous rate that can sustain life in a changing environment.
