- Aspirin causes irritation of the stomach, gastric erosion, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and G.I. bleeding.
- It also causes a decrease in prostaglandin levels leading to increased secretion
of HCI and ulceration. - Aspirin stimulates the CTZ in the brain causing epigastric distress, nausea, and vomiting.
- Hence it is not used in patients with peptic ulcers.
