Gene mapping and genetic testing are two unrelated techniques used to identify the location of a gene in an organism. While gene mapping is used to find the location of a specific gene, genetic testing is used to find out if a person has a particular disease.
The difference between gene mapping and genetic testing lies in their purpose. Gene mapping is used to identify genes that play a role in disease development or inheritance. Genetic testing is used to determine if a person has inherited an undesirable trait from his/her parents or ancestors.
